About the LIP Program
LIP Program Eligibility Criteria
Young women entering 9th through 12th grade in the DFW region of Texas are invited to apply during the application period.
Benefits of the Program
1. Access to the best academic institutions in the area, with exclusive ‘Latinas in Progress’ only campus tours.
2. Information about scholarships and special programs from various organizations, corporations, colleges, and universities.
3. Participating junior and senior students are eligible to apply for HWNT's scholarships/awards for use towards a university, college, or trade/vocational school.
4. College readiness seminars and toolkits, as well as professional development and networking opportunities.
5. Interaction with other young Latina leaders and professional mentors.
LIP Scholarship Requirements for Juniors & Seniors
1. Scholarship eligibility for juniors and seniors is based on attendance and participation.
2. The criterion for selection encompasses academic performance, extra-curricular activities, seminar participation, community service, future goals, financial need, and student commitment.
3. An average of 6 scholarships is awarded every academic year and awards range from $1,000 to $3,500.
Education Series
The LIP Education Series consists of learning sessions, volunteer opportunities, and professional mentorship. It enables students to learn and focus on the following:
- The college process
- Writing skills
- Assertiveness & advocacy
- The importance of civic engagement
- Healthy living & important life skills
The seminars are hosted at partner colleges and universities on designated days, once a month, during the school year typically from August to April. Students participate in volunteer activities such as:
- Cena del Barrio (partnership w/ LULAC)
- Dallas Blooms at the Arboretum
- Career/Resource Fairs (partnership w/ Dallas College)
Freshman and Sophomores
All underclassmen are encouraged to participate in the seminars and event opportunities. The information covered will allow them to advance in their academic journey as they work alongside peers and will better prepare them for their junior and senior years.
Freshman College Students
The Dallas LIP program will also include Freshman College Students this year. These students will not meet eligibility for scholarships this year but will continue to benefit from mentor relationships and networking
