Building Bright Futures Through Education

The core of LIP is its Education Seminar Series. The following are our 5 pillars.
College & VocationalSchool Preparation

LIP students participate in several college fairs, visits, FASFA application assistance, and hear from representatives from institutions of higher education.

Professional Development & Assertiveness Training

LIP students learn to fine-tune professional skills, with help from mentors and community advocates, in areas like college and scholarship applications.

Health Awareness & Self-improvement

LIP students learn from subject matter experts in the health realm about counseling resources, transition and adjustment periods, and how to be more aware and in tune with one's self.

Civic Enrichment & Leadership Skills

LIP students are given a multitude of volunteer opportunities to support their community, become advocates, and showcase leadership.

Writing Skills

Each seminar offers various professional development topics, like assertiveness, and all LIP students are encouraged to participate and engage.

History

Latinas in Progress (LIP) was founded by the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas (HWNT) in 1989. This program was created to mentor high-school Latinas as they embark on their college journey and equip them with the necessary tools to succeed in their personal and professional lives. Today, in alignment with its mission, LIP strives to continue empowering girls of color and advance their educational, cultural, social, legal, and economic well-being.

Mission

To forge pathways for the advancement, engagement, and empowerment of young women in the pursuit of post-secondary education.

LIP Students Testimonials

The path toward college is complex and unique for every individual. Arguably, the most important factor for success on this journey is building a strong network of support. I found this in my friends, family, and the LIP community. They supported my dreams and goals. I would not be here without the incredible encouragement from my many LIP mentors and peers. My advice is to ask for guidance when you need it and build relationships with those around you. LIP Alumnae '23 | UT Austin
